NEW YORK, N.Y. – Roan Yellowthorn front lady Jackie McLean, and multi-instrumentalist producer Shawn Strack, have released their first full-length studio album, Indigo, today! Their debut album is out now thru Blue Élan Records, and can be purchased, streamed or played at smarturl.it/ryindigo.
Videos for the album’s first two singles, “Talk About It” (CLICK TO WATCH) and “Lie” (CLICK TO WATCH), are also out now.
“Our album, ‘Indigo,’ is a compendium of my own deep feelings about experiences that changed me. Experiences and feelings that are so personal they become universal. Shawn and I worked on this record together for over a year and the whole process has been such a leap of faith. Such a labor of love. We are both so proud of this album and so grateful to our label, Blue Élan Records, and its president, our champion, Kirk Pasich, for believing in us and helping us to bring it into the light.”
With influences ranging from Angel Olsen to ABBA to The National, Indigo is an album that intermingles pop, rock, indie, and folk – with a singer/songwriter’s heart – making the music simultaneously familiar and equally fresh.
The songs on Indigo are deeply personal to McLean, with the album’s debut track “Talk About It” being written about the feelings surrounding a very intense relationship ending. One that lacked the proper closure. “For years I was bothered by the silence that loomed between me and my former partner,” explains McLean. “I feel I have some peace of mind now, and writing this song, putting my painful feelings into words played a large part in that.”
Jackie McLean, daughter of iconic folk and rock & roll artist Don McLean, seeks to make her own stake as an artist. Roan Yellowthorn is the alternative name she created for herself in college, with the intention of making it a permanent moniker. “I wanted to create something whimsical, nature-based, and reflective of my true soul”, she explains. “I felt I needed to have my own space, a safe space that I could create and explore inside of. Coming up with my own name was a way to give myself that space.” The name didn’t stick in college, but when Jackie started writing songs and wanted a pseudonym to create and perform under, Shawn suggested using Roan Yellowthorn, the name she’d crafted in college. This time, it stuck.

About Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge:
Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge has operated across the alley from the Ryman almost continuously since 1960. Its proprietor from 1960 to 1978, Hattie Louise “Tootsie” Bess, bought the lounge called “Mom’s” and named it for herself. According to tradition, a painter mistakenly painted the exterior orchid purple. The color was never changed and became Tootsie’s signature color. Over the years, she served such famous customers as Kris Kristofferson, Faron Young and Willie Nelson when they were still up-and-coming artists, and Tootsie was well-known for her generosity toward struggling musicians. The photo and memorabilia-lined walls are called “Tootsie’s Wall of Fame.”
Today, Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge is a must-see Music City destination for tourists and is frequented by locals, including some of the biggest names in country music, who often drop in and surprise patrons with impromptu performances. Kenny Chesney with classic rock icon Steve Miller, Keith Urban, Kix Brooks, Montgomery Gentry, Kid Rock, Steven Tyler, Randy Houser, Jamey Johnson, Dierks Bentley and Hank Williams, Jr. are among the artists who have recently performed there. NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Neo-Traditional Country singer and Alabama native Shane Owens is re-releasing his holiday tune “Christmas In Dixie,” a song originally sung by Country Music Hall of Fame members, Alabama. Originally released in 2017, Owens blends his rich and bold baritone voice over a mixture of contemporary and classic country music sounds that wraps the notes around the listener’s heart in this classic Alabama inspired holiday song.
“The song ‘Christmas in Dixie’ has always been my favorite Christmas song – not to mention it was recorded by one of my all time most admired bands, the group Alabama,” said Owens. “Since I am an Alabama native it makes it even that much more special to me!”
The song is available now, and can be downloaded through all major digital retailers including: iTunes, Google Play and Amazon Music.
Owens is also set to help raise money and awareness for Cystic Fibrosis by participating in the Cast For A Cure charity event on October 5-6, 2018 at Lake Guntersville State Park. The event is benefiting the Children’s Hospital of Alabama. Owens will perform a FREE, open to the public acoustic concert, on Friday, October 5 at 7:00 pm CT during the anglers meeting at the Beach Pavilion at Lake Guntersville State Park. Donations benefiting Children’s Hospital of Alabama are tax deductible and greatly appreciated. More information can be found at facebook.com/castforacurecf or ChildrensAL.org.
“I am so honored to be a part of this event this year,” said Owens. “It is a wonderful cause helping our children. My wife and I have been donating for years, and having two kids of our own, we understand the importance of this organization! Can’t wait to see y’all there!”
Shane Owens released his latest musical project, It’s A Southern Thing, earlier this year with six tunes that remains consistent with Owens’ traditional country sound, blended with a modern edge. The first single, “Lie,” garnered positive reviews from outlets such as Billboard and Rolling Stone Country. It’s A Southern Thing can be purchased or streamed here.
You can find Shane Owens music on Apple Music, Spotify, and Amazon Music and stay current with him on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. Be sure to follow his Youtube and visit www.shaneowenscountry.com.

About Shane Owens:
Named by Rolling Stone Country as one of “10 New Country Artists You Need To Know,” and awarded 2018 Music Row Independent Artist of the Year, Shane Owens has been building a strong following across the Southeast for more than a decade. His powerful vocal range combined with the emotional lyrical content of his songs has made him a favorite of fans, critics, and his fellow artists alike. After starting his career by opening shows for dozens of major stars in the mid-2000s, the baritone performer attracted the attention of Nashville music executives, and he soon landed a record deal. However, with all the changes in the music industry at the time, his album was shelved and never released. Just like the ‘Never Give Up’ mantra of his lyrics, Owens picked himself up and moved on, thanks to famed producer James Stroud (Tim McGraw, Aaron Lewis, Clint Black), Country music legend Randy Travis, who produced his first album, Where I’m Comin’ From, and Amerimonte Records. Never one to sit still for long, Owens followed up with his most recent release It’s A Southern Thing and is currently impacting at radio with his latest single “Love To Try Them On”. TULSA, Okla. – Jana Jae, known for her virtuosity on the ‘Magic Blue Fiddle,’ is planning on taking the Hee Haw audience on a musical journey where she performed on the historic television program either as part of the Buck Owens band or as a soloist. In a new touring production entitled Kornfield Friends, Jana has put together a grouping of original cast members from Hee Haw. Kornfield Friends will bring a touch of ‘Kornfield Kounty’ to stages around the US and Canada and will have the audience involved from the beginning to the end. Whether singing, clapping, laughing or crying, this show has something for everyone.
“Are you ready to get ‘pickin’ and grinnin’?? I sure hope so, because we are all very excited about taking this show on the road,” says Jana Jae. “We did a couple test shows and they went over great. People just loved the down-home jokes and family-friendly show that took them back to when Hee Haw was originally airing.”
Each show will consist of Lulu Roman, Misty Rowe, Jana Jae, and Buck Trent – all four cast members of the hit country music variety show HEE HAW! HEE HAW is only one of a handful of television programs that have had a profound and lasting influence on American culture with many of its skits today being woven into the American comedic fabric. The hit television show, which continues to air on RFD-TV in reruns, take the viewer to their happy place in time with some rural culture, fun humor, and some great country music.
LULU ROMAN served up many laughs and, well, some greasy food at Lulu’s Truck Stop where the food and customer service was usually pretty bad. In addition, Lulu is remembered for being a member of the Hee Haw All-Jug Band and her sitting around on an old-fashioned sofa in the parlor being a deadpan character and commenting. MISTY ROWE is known for her “Bedtime Stories” sketch. Rowe would deliver one of her bizarre stories, sometimes a rewritten nursery rhyme. By the sketch’s end, she would deliver a humorous “moral to the story,” giggle, wink at the camera, and blow out the candle which was lit on the nightstand next to the bed where the story was told. BUCK TRENT is known for his pickin’ and grinnin’ as a featured performer on Hee Haw as well as his years working with Roy Clark.
On certain production shows a special guest, who had previously performed or appeared on Hee Haw will be added to the show. Those guests will be announced, in advance, of the performance.
Kornfield Friends is executive produced by Jana Jae, managed by Al Schiltz for The Consortium, and booked by Robert Williams and Whitney Crabtree for WBA Entertainment.
