Plus, Pride announces trio of Canadian concert dates in April, with additional U.S. dates to be added
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Charley Pride: I’m Just Me, a documentary about the life and career of legendary Country music superstar Charley Pride, will debut on CBC’s documentary Channel on Wednesday, January 1 at 7:30 pm ET/4:30 pm PT as part of their All Day Music Marathon. It will repeat on Sunday, February 2 at 9:00 pm ET/PT [click here for trailer & airing info].
Charley Pride: I’m Just Me traces the improbable journey of Charley Pride, from his humble beginnings as a sharecropper’s son on a cotton farm in segregated Sledge, Mississippi to his career as a Negro League baseball player and his meteoric rise as a trailblazing country music superstar. Narrated by country music icon Tanya Tucker, the new documentary reveals how Pride’s love for music led him from the Delta to a larger, grander world. In the 1940s, radio transcended racial barriers, making it possible for Pride to grow up listening to and emulating Grand Ole Opry stars like Ernest Tubb and Roy Acuff. The singer arrived in Nashville in 1963 while the city roiled with sit-ins and racial violence. But with boldness, perseverance and undeniable musical talent, he managed to parlay a series of fortuitous encounters with music industry insiders into a legacy of hit singles, a Recording Academy “Lifetime Achievement Award” and a place in the Country Music Hall of Fame.
The film includes original revealing interviews with country music royalty, including Garth Brooks, Dolly Parton, Brad Paisley, Darius Rucker and Marty Stuart. It also includes several on-camera conversations between Pride and special guests, including Rozene Pride (his wife of 61 years), Willie Nelson, and other fellow musicians. The film also features many songs from his repertoire of classic country hits, along with more modern cuts like “Standing In My Way,” from his latest album Music In My Heart, released in 2017.
On January 30, 2019 the film made its world premiere at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. The premiere featured an appearance by Charley Pride himself, along with special guest artists featured in the film, including the film’s narrator Tanya Tucker, Jimmie Allen, Janie Fricke, and Sylvia Hutton. Members of the media, and other family and friends of Pride also attended. After the film a Q&A was hosted by the film’s director Barbara Hall, and journalist Robert K. Oermann, Country Music Hall of Fame’s Peter Cooper, and of course, Charley Pride.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Country music star and Grand Ole Opry veteran Tim Atwood recently reunited onstage with fifty-two year Grand Ole Opry member, and country music icon, Jeannie Seely. Atwood & Seely – who’ve accompanied each other many times over the years on the Grand Ole Opry stage – performed “Old Friends” at Lipscomb University’s Allen Arena for the Fifth Annual ‘Nashville Senior Christmas ShinnDig.’ Atwood also performed a fast paced rendition of “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town” on piano.
The special event was established to honor Nashville senior citizens by George Shinn and The George Shinn Foundation as a promise to his mother to always remember our seniors. Approximately 800 seniors from the greater Nashville area were served at the free luncheon, highlighted by holiday entertainment, special door prizes, and a car which was given away to a needy individual.
“This is my third year to perform on the ShinnDig, and it is such an honor!” says Atwood. “I admire how Mr. Shinn, years ago, made a promise to his mother to remember our seniors, and he kept that promise. I took care of my own mother when her health began to fail, and I made a similar promise. I love the way George Shinn and the George Shinn Foundation reminds us that, in what often feels like a youth obsessed society, our “seniors” are still our most valuable asset. I can attest that life doesn’t end when you reach a certain age; with the right frame of mind and perseverance, it just keeps getting better.”
Other performers at the event included Charlie McCoy, Nicole C. Mullen, Julie Roberts, Paul Allen Coons, and Candy Christmas, with Hope Hines joining as the event’s emcee. Also in attendance were special guests Scott Hamilton and Darrell Waltrip.

The auditorium inside Memorial Hall is now recognized as the ‘Jim Halsey Auditorium’
Halsey has represented 29 inductees into the Country Music Hall of Fame, as well as 12 members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and has played a pivotal role in bringing country music to television
Halsey shares 70 stories from 70 years in the music and entertainment business with Tulsa World writer Jimmie Tramel [read here]
INDEPENDENCE, Kansas – Legendary music impresario and manager Jim Halsey is celebrating more than 70 years in the entertainment industry. A pioneer of country music innovation and expansion, the 89 year old Independence, Kansas native was honored in his hometown with the 2,000 seat auditorium inside Memorial Hall being renamed to the Jim Halsey Auditorium. Now 89, Halsey has booked hundreds of acts and performances at the venue since 1949.
“This honor means more to me than anything else in my life. To be recognized in my home town that I love dearly is the best thing to ever happen to me,” said Halsey.
Over the course of his career Jim Halsey has played a key role in the direction and management of many country music giants. He has managed, booked or guided the careers of some of the most iconic figures in country music, including, Roy Clark, Waylon Jennings, The Judds, Hank Thompson, Merle Haggard, Reba McEntire, Wanda Jackson, Freddy Fender, Roy Orbison, Tammy Wynette, Rick Nelson, Clint Black, Dwight Yoakam, Minnie Pearl, James Brown and The Oak Ridge Boys, who he’s managed for over 45 years.
Halsey’s vision, marketing, and passion was fundamental to the rapid growth of a genre that may otherwise have taken many more years to develop. His leadership resulted in The Jim Halsey Company becoming the biggest Country music agency in the world. Halsey’s artists collectively have hundreds of gold and platinum records, received countless awards, including Grammy awards and nominations, and sold out shows at The Grand Ole Opry, Carnegie Hall, Radio City Music Hall and helped to expand Country music on a global basis, headlining festivals and performances all over the world. In 1976, Halsey took Country music artists Roy Clark and The Oak Ridge Boys on the first-ever tour of the U.S.S.R. To date, he is the only producer or manager who has ever presented every artist on a single episode of the Hollywood Squares, as well as book his acts in every Las Vegas showroom for an entire week.
In 2010 Halsey released an entertainment business book titled ‘Starmaker: How To Make It In The Music Business’ [Amazon | Goodreads] digging deep into the fundamentals of how to develop an act, get an agent, use press to build an audience, play the biggest and best forums and more. Halsey recently added to some of these stories with Tulsa World’s Jimmie Tramel, chronicling 70 stories from 70 years in the entertainment and music business. He has future plans to pen another book, detailing his many global adventures advancing music and entertainment around the world.
“My life and interest is really in people and what makes them work and the energy they have,” he said. “If you can observe and notice the energy of a person, then you have the ability to get, and use, parts of that energy yourself. So my whole life has been about trying to harness energy — for the good. So I’m still doing it today. The Oak Ridge Boys still exude that energy. I am inspired by them. They are my closest friends in the world, but they are inspirational to me and to a lot of other people, too.”

Plus, Allen joins some of the music industry’s top stars at the annual Christmas 4 Kids Bus Show in Hendersonville
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Country music veteran Deborah Allen helped spread holiday cheer to children in need this year by stopping by Seacrest Studios in the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, where she read her children’s book, The Loneliest Christmas Tree. While there, Deborah made a special surprise presentation to the Children’s Music Department by supplying 90 ukuleles for children who are battling illnesses to learn and play, while staying in the hospital, which were sponsored by REMRAF inc., Music and Arts and Davitt and Hanser.
“Christmas is a wonderful time of love and giving. This year I was so excited to stop by Seacrest Studios at Monroe Carell Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt to visit with the children and read my children’s book, The Loneliest Christmas Tree,” says Allen. “It was an honor to have the opportunity to offer musical inspiration by bringing beautiful ukuleles to children during this joyous season through my relationship with good friend Shane Farmer.”
Deborah Allen’s The Loneliest Christmas Tree is in its second printed edition, and is also now available as an audio / video book with limited edition autographed copies at www.DeborahAllen.com.
Allen also participated in the annual Christmas 4 Kids tour bus show at the Hendersonville Walmart where she was joined by other celebrity artists like 3 Doors Down, NSYNC’s Chris Kirkpatrick, T. Graham Brown, Mo Pitney and many others. The event and celebrity shopping party benefits underprivileged families and their children by giving them a special opportunity to see the inside of the star’s tour buses, along with meeting some of the music industry’s top artists before going on an all-expenses paid shopping spree funded by the Christmas 4 Kids charity and sponsor donations.
“Seeing the joy and excitement in the children’s eyes is what Christmas 4 Kids is all about!” said Allen. “It is so rewarding to be able to bring happiness and delight to the children, but the truth is they are as much a blessing to our hearts as we are to theirs. Christmas 4 Kids is a beautiful circle of love.”
About Deborah Allen: Deborah Allen is one of those rare artists who forged their own path to success and ended up building a world-class career in the process. An extraordinarily talented singer, songwriter, producer and performer, Deborah’s unique abilities as an artist may be matched only by her enthusiasm and creativity as an individual. It is that formidable combination of spirit and talent that keeps the Grammy-nominated entertainer in demand.
Allen has penned more than 2,000 compositions for hundreds of artists, including smash hits by LeAnn Rimes, Brooks & Dunn, Patty Loveless, Conway Twitty, Tanya Tucker, Janie Fricke, John Conlee, Isaac Hayes, Diana Ross, Sheena Easton, Fleetwood Mac and more. On her own, Deborah climbed the charts with hits such as “I’ve Been Wrong Before,” “I Hurt For You,” “Rock Me,” “If You’re Not Gonna Love Me,” “Wrong Side Of Love,” “Break These Chains” and her signature song, “Baby I Lied.” In some ways, “Baby I Lied” confirmed the idea that an artist could have success in different formats with the same song – a precedent that would prove to be years ahead of the crossover trends of today. “Baby I Lied” not only appealed to Country and Pop radio listeners, earning multiple Million Air-Play Awards in the process, but it also resulted in a pair of Grammy nominations for the Delta songstress – one as a vocalist and one as a songwriter.
Throughout her phenomenal journey of hits and accomplishments in every facet of her career, Deborah Allen remains true to her vision. From her discovery by Roy Orbison, to her friendship with Shel Silverstein, her work with Prince, Deborah creates art entirely on her own terms. With a distinguished career built on success after success as a performer, songwriter and producer, the dynamic Delta singer from Memphis, Tennessee, has no plans of slowing down anytime soon. That’s simply not Deborah Allen’s style.

Plus, Dalton’s video for ‘Scarecrow’ premiered by NashvilleMusicGuide.com, while the songs receives a nomination for Song Of The Year by Strictly Country Magazine’s 2020 Spirit Awards
Christmas-themed shows coming to Sonora, California (Dec. 20) Virginia City, Nevada (Dec. 22) and June Lake, California (Dec. 24)
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Country music hit-maker Lacy J. Dalton is known for her willingness to help others, whether it be teaching songwriting to prisoners, saving wild horses throughout the West or simply rescuing a dog that has become the subject of her holiday favorite, “Carl The Christmas Dog.”
The song and video is based on a true story, however, much like the movies, it’s not meant to be a literal portrayal, and tussles the story with exaggerated humor. Carl did eat the tree, presents and a bunch of other things, but, he did not eat the cat!!
“Carl is not much of a guard dog, but he sure is like my best friend,” says Lacy J. Dalton. In making the video, Dalton adds, “This is quite the departure from many of the previous music videos, but I wanted to just get some friends and keep it fun and simple. So all we did was gather some good friends, Carl (the dog), a phone and a camera. I sure hope it brings some joy to everyone this Christmas season.”
New Video For “Scarecrow” Premieres By Nashvile Music Guide With the recently released four song EP titled Scarecrow, fans have been given another taste of new music and a new music video which premiered by NashvilleMusicGuide.com. This new blend of deep, edgy music has taken Dalton’s songwriting in a whole new direction.
Scarecrow was produced by Ira Ingber, who’s past experiences have included playing with Bob Dylan, Bonnie Raitt, Brian Wilson, and Captain Beefheart.
Lacy J. Dalton surrounded herself with experienced musicians on Scarecrow, including bassist John Avila, also a renowned producer, composer, arranger, and vocalist whose credits include performing with Neil Young, Willie Nelson and Oingo Boingo, and drummer David Raven, who has recorded and toured with the likes of Keith Richards, Norah Jones, T-bone Burnett, Steve Earle, Shelby Lynne, and Lucinda Williams.

About Lacy J. Dalton: First hitting the Country Top-20 in 1979 with “Crazy Blue Eyes,” Dalton was one of the most successful female vocalists of the format during the 80s with the CMA-nominated anthem “16th Avenue,” as well as hits like “Takin’ It Easy,” “Everybody Makes Mistakes,” “Hillbilly Girl With The Blues,” and “Black Coffee.” During her career, she has collaborated with such Country Music Hall of Fame members as Bobby Bare, Glen Campbell, Willie Nelson, and George Jones. She toured with outlaws like Hank Williams Jr. at a time when it was very unusual for a woman to do so. She also toured for a long period of time with Willie Nelson and was the only female on his “Half Nelson” album, which also included duets with Ray Charles, Merle Haggard, Carlos Santana, Neil Young and more. The album went Platinum and Lacy received a gold record for her contribution.
Her most recent recorded work is the four song EP ‘Scarecrow’ which is now available on all streaming music sites. Dalton is a 2017 inductee of the North American Country Music Association International Hall of Fame.
